Since 2004 TravellerSpace has organised a weekly Gypsy and Traveller women’s group in St.Day.

The drop-in group is held at Teyluva Children’s Centre and is open to all women who want to come along, but is mostly attdended by residents of the nearby Wheal Jewell site and their pre-school children.

Every week there are different activities to join in with, including healthy cooking, art and craft, aerobics, accessing the internet, driving theory practice and first aid training.

Pre-school children are welcome, with TravellerSpace’s Early Years trained staff providing play and learning opportunities for them.

St.Day Gypsy and Traveller Women’s Group has proved an accessible way for other agencies to promote their services. The Wednesday session is regularly attended by health workers, education services, the police and Family Services.

Many of the young women who attend the group stay on after lunch for help to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. TravellerSpace provide child care so the women can concentrate on passing qualifications.
